Cross-Border Market Entry & Trade Advisory
Entering Israel from Latin America: what to settle in the first 90 days
Most Latin American companies that stall in Israel do not fail on product. They fail on sequencing: the wrong partner first, regulation too late, and no institutional anchor.
By Uriel Raviv ·
Israel rewards companies that arrive with a clear thesis and punishes those that arrive with a brochure. The market is small, relationship-driven, and fast. Decisions that would take a quarter elsewhere can happen in a week, and so can the reputational damage from a poorly chosen first partner.
Start with the regulatory map, not the sales plan
Before a single meeting, map which authority governs your product and what it will ask for. Standards, labelling, import licensing, and sector regulators each carry their own timelines. Knowing them early lets you sequence commercial conversations around approvals instead of discovering them after a distributor has already committed.
Choose the first partner deliberately
Your first distributor, importer, or joint-venture partner becomes your reputation in a market where everyone knows everyone. Diligence on that counterpart matters as much as diligence on the market itself.
- Who else do they represent, and does that create a conflict?
- How are they regarded by the relevant regulator and by their own customers?
- Can they reach the decision-makers you need, or only the buyers?
Anchor yourself institutionally
Government programs, chambers of commerce, and the innovation ecosystem are not formalities in Israel. They are how credibility is conferred. A warm introduction through the right institution shortens the path to serious counterparts considerably.
What to have in hand by day 90
- A confirmed regulatory pathway and timeline for your product
- A shortlist of vetted partners, with diligence completed on the lead candidate
- At least one institutional relationship that can vouch for you
- A go or no-go decision grounded in evidence, not enthusiasm
If you are weighing an entry into Israel and want to pressure-test the sequence, I am happy to talk it through.
